Admission & selectivity

International applicants

~20–35% (est.)

Zhejiang University does not publish an international acceptance rate. International undergraduate admission is materials-based: applicants submit passport, high-school diploma and transcripts, a language certificate, personal statement (~800 words), two recommendation letters and award certificates.

Starting 2026/2027 all international applicants must also submit a valid China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) score report (first test organized by the China Scholarship Council on 21 December 2025).

Chinese-taught programs require HSK (generally HSK4/180+, some majors HSK5/6 or higher literature/education thresholds); English-taught programs require IELTS 5.5 / TOEFL 80 (or equivalent) for non-native English speakers.

A non-refundable 800 RMB application fee applies.

Domestic (mainland) students

Top ~0.3–0.5% provincial (est.)

Domestic undergraduate admission is gaokao-based; no acceptance rate is published. As one of China's top C9 League universities, ZJU requires among the highest gaokao scores nationally, typically demanding a provincial ranking within roughly the top fraction of a percent of test-takers, with exact cut-off scores/rankings varying by province, major and year.

Language of instruction

Chinese-taught programs English-taught degrees

Zhejiang University's International College offers full English-taught undergraduate engineering degrees (Electrical Engineering & Automation, Electronic Science & Technology, Information Engineering, Automation, Optical Information Science & Engineering) at its Haining International Campus; no Chinese proficiency is required and non-native English speakers submit TOEFL/IELTS.

Other undergraduate degrees remain Chinese-taught.

How admission works

ZJU undergraduate international admission is competitive and based on senior high school academic performance, Chinese language proficiency, and an interview. Starting 2026/2027, all undergraduate applicants must provide a valid China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) report.

Applications are submitted through the ZJU international admissions portal.

Frequently asked

How do I apply?

Most Chinese universities take applications through their own international admissions portal. Open the official website below to see the current steps, required documents and deadlines, then start your file with us and we will guide you through it.

What does it cost?

Tuition, housing and living costs vary by program and city. Where we have a figure confirmed from the official site, it is shown above, otherwise it is marked to verify. Always confirm the current amount on the official site before you budget.

Is it a reach for me?

Admission depends on your grades, your Chinese or English level and the specific program. We can look at your profile together and suggest a realistic list, this university included, rather than guessing.
