Admission & selectivity

International applicants

~25–40% (est.)

HIT publishes no international acceptance rate. International undergraduate admission is materials-based (no gaokao): applicants submit high-school diploma and transcripts, language proof, passport, study plan and recommendation letters, and are selected by document review.

HIT additionally requires all applicants to take the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) and submit the score report. Chinese-taught programs (except Chinese Language & Literature) require HSK Level 4 with a score of at least 210 (valid two years); English-taught programs have no Chinese requirement but require IELTS (Academic) above 6.0 with no band below 5.5, or TOEFL iBT above 80.

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens under 30 (under 25 for HIT scholarship applicants).

Domestic (mainland) students

Top ~1–2% provincial (est.)

No domestic acceptance rate is published. Domestic undergraduate admission is gaokao-based: as a top C9-League engineering university, HIT admits high-scoring students through the centralized national college-entrance allocation, with province-specific score and ranking cut-offs set each year; there is no application-acceptance ratio, only annual gaokao cut-off lines.

Language of instruction

Chinese-taught programs English-taught degrees

Most undergraduate degrees are Chinese-taught, but HIT offers full English-taught bachelor programs including Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Architecture, Intelligent Medical Engineering and Business Administration; applicants need IELTS 6.0 (no band under 5.5) or TOEFL iBT 80.

Frequently asked

How do I apply?

Most Chinese universities take applications through their own international admissions portal. Open the official website below to see the current steps, required documents and deadlines, then start your file with us and we will guide you through it.

What does it cost?

Tuition, housing and living costs vary by program and city. Where we have a figure confirmed from the official site, it is shown above, otherwise it is marked to verify. Always confirm the current amount on the official site before you budget.

Is it a reach for me?

Admission depends on your grades, your Chinese or English level and the specific program. We can look at your profile together and suggest a realistic list, this university included, rather than guessing.
