Admission & selectivity

International applicants

~20–35% (est.)

Beijing Normal University does not publish an acceptance rate for international students. Admission is materials-based: non-Chinese passport holders (aged 18-45 for many programs) apply through BNU's online application system, submitting passport, degree/enrollment certificate, transcripts, a recommendation letter, and a language certificate.

Most undergraduate degrees are Chinese-taught and require HSK (level/score varies by major). Admission is by document review; some programs add an interview or written test.

Domestic (mainland) students

Top ~0.5–1.5% provincial (est.)

Domestic undergraduate admission is gaokao-based, so no acceptance rate is published. As a Project 985/Double First-Class university and China's leading normal (teacher-training) university, BNU admits top-tier students; provincial score/ranking cut-offs are set annually per province and major, generally requiring gaokao scores well above the first-tier (benke) line and high provincial rankings.

Language of instruction

Chinese-taught programs- English-taught degrees

Full undergraduate degree programs are taught in Chinese and require HSK. BNU's English-taught undergraduate offering is a non-degree credit program (one semester or one academic year) covering fields such as Education, Economics, Environmental Science, Philosophy, Law and Communication, not a full English-medium bachelor degree.

Full English-taught degrees at BNU exist only at the postgraduate level (English-taught master's and PhD programs).

How admission works

International undergraduates apply via the BNU online system (https://international.bnu.edu.cn), pay CNY 500 fee, submit notarized documents and CSCA test results, and must attend a written exam (CSCA) plus a BNU interview; admission offers are sent from June 2026.

All undergraduate programs are taught in Chinese.

Frequently asked

How do I apply?

Most Chinese universities take applications through their own international admissions portal. Open the official website below to see the current steps, required documents and deadlines, then start your file with us and we will guide you through it.

What does it cost?

Tuition, housing and living costs vary by program and city. Where we have a figure confirmed from the official site, it is shown above, otherwise it is marked to verify. Always confirm the current amount on the official site before you budget.

Is it a reach for me?

Admission depends on your grades, your Chinese or English level and the specific program. We can look at your profile together and suggest a realistic list, this university included, rather than guessing.
