CAS-ANSO Scholarship (Degree Program)

Scholarship supporting 100–200 master's students and 300 doctoral students per year to pursue postgraduate science and technology education at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), and CAS institutes across China. Formerly known as the ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents (launched 2019). Includes a sub-category: the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship for up to 40 students per year from developing countries.

Administered by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions (ANSO).
- Coverage
Per the official 2026 call (sponsored by CAS): tuition waiver; comprehensive medical insurance; application-fee waiver; a one-time international travel allowance (one trip from the awardee's home country to China); a one-time visa / residence-permit allowance; and centralized Chinese language and culture training.
Monthly living stipend stated in the 2026 call: master's students CNY 3,000/month (up to 36 months); doctoral students CNY 6,000/month, rising to CNY 7,000/month after passing the university qualification test (up to 48 months).
Accommodation is NOT listed as a covered benefit in the official 2026 call. For ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship awardees, the core items are covered by CAS while the travel allowance and training may be provided by TWAS/UNESCO instead.
- Eligibility
Non-Chinese citizens. Must be proficient in English or Chinese. Master's applicants: born after January 1, 1996 (for the 2026 cycle). Doctoral applicants: born after January 1, 1991 (for the 2026 cycle).
Must meet USTC or UCAS admission criteria. Must not currently be enrolled in a master's or doctoral program in China. Cannot apply to both USTC and UCAS simultaneously.

2026 cycle opened October 15, 2025. Deadline for applicants and referees: January 31, 2026 (Beijing Time). Application via USTC or UCAS admission systems.
